28 Day Self-Care Challenge for Moms

Self-care is so important. As mothers and wives, we tend to put our children and husbands ahead of our needs. If we do this too long without taking a moment for ourselves, we burn out…hard. When we fail to take care of ourselves, our mental, emotional, and physical health are all affected.

What is self-care?

I feel like I hear or see the words a lot, but does anyone really even know what they mean? I didn’t when I first started seeing it pop up on Pinterest.

Self-care is all of the actions we do regularly to keep our mind, body, and soul healthy.

As mothers, we give and give and give some more to our family, oftentimes forgetting to take a moment for ourselves. A couple months ago, I started a subscription to FabFitFun. The items that came in the box were awesome and I really felt pampered. What I didn’t know about the subscription was that it included something called FabFitFun TV, which has exercise videos and now cooking videos available for free to those who have subscribed.

I found meditation videos almost immediately and decided that day that I would start a new self-care routine. I was feeling stressed and tired and just like I was letting myself go. My new routine would include meditating when I woke up in the morning, enjoying a cup of vanilla chai tea while doing a brain dump, and then meditating again before bed. It meant I had to wake up about 30 minutes earlier.

I feel so much better during the day when I’ve completed my morning routine. I feel like I’ve taken a moment to breathe and be Allie, instead of just Mama. Don’t get me wrong, being a mom is the best thing I’ve ever done, but getting a chance to pee alone and enjoy my cup of tea while gathering my thoughts for the day is really helpful for my mind and stress level. There are definitely days that I don’t take time for me and by the end of the day, I feel a bit grumpier.

Practicing self-care doesn’t have to cost money, take a lot of time, or be difficult. Download the 28 Day Self-Care Challenge and start your journey to a happier, healthier you!

There are so many ways to practice self-care and what works for me, may not work for you. If you need more ideas, check out my Pinterest board all about Motivation, Inspiration, and Self-Care. I hope you can carve out some time each day to take care of you because you are important, too. It’s like they tell you on an airplane. Put your oxygen mask on first, so you are able to help the others around you. If you don’t and you pass out, you can’t help anyone. The same idea goes for motherhood. Take care of yourself so you can take care of others.

Okay, I’ll get off of my soapbox now. I didn’t intend to sound preachy because I’m not the best of the best at self-care, but I do think it’s really important and I want the mamas that read this to understand how important it is.

If you take the 28 day challenge, please share how it goes! I’d love to know! I’m printing my copy and hanging it above my desk so when I’m working away I remember to take a few minutes for myself.
